Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed — you are welcome to self-refer at any time. We also accept GP Chronic Condition Management Plans (GPCCMP) and NDIS referrals.

Is a pessary fitting uncomfortable?

Usually not. Fitting is done gently and with your consent, and we take the time to find a comfortable fit.

Can I use a pessary long-term?

Yes. Many people use a pessary long-term, with regular reviews to keep it comfortable and effective.

Can I manage the pessary myself?

Yes — as pelvic health physiotherapists, we teach you how to self-manage your pessary, including how to insert and remove it.

Will it stay in during exercise?

A well-fitted pessary should stay in place during activity, helping many people exercise more comfortably.

Do I still need pelvic floor physiotherapy?

A pessary works best alongside pelvic floor physiotherapy, which we can provide as part of your care.

Is an internal examination required?

A gentle internal assessment is needed to fit a pessary, and is always done with your informed consent.

Can I claim through private health?

Yes — if your private health extras cover physiotherapy, appointments are paid in full on the day. You can then submit your receipt to your private health fund to claim any rebate.
